Student of Excellence Award

The South Carolina Council for the Social Studies has long awarded Social Studies teachers on the elementary, middle and high school levels for doing outstanding work in the classroom in the field of Social Studies.  SCCSS also awards a Program of Excellence in Social Studies Award each year as well. 

This year, SCCSS wants to continue to recognize the people who are the reason why teachers and programs strive for excellence – the students in the Social Studies classrooms across our state.  As the schools are the best judge of the excellence of their students’ progress and achievement, we want the schools to decide which outstanding students will receive the SCCSS Student of Excellence in Social Studies Awards.

 Here is the plan:  (***open to students in grades K-12)

  • SCCSS will provide one certificate per Social Studies teacher or up to 10 certificates per school request.
  • Individual schools will each set their own criteria for the Social Studies Student of Excellence Award
  • Schools will send the names of student winners to the SCCSS mailing address (listed in newsletter)
  • SCCSS will provide, at no charge, signed Student of Excellence in Social Studies certificates and mail them to schools that make requests
  • Schools will present these certificates to students at their awards programs or PTA meetings or however each school chooses to recognize the students
  • Names of student winners will be published each year in the program at our annual conference
  • Requests must be postmarked no later than May 1st of each year.
  • Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery. 

This is a wonderful opportunity for SCCSS to help you to recognize the students who are working hard in Social Studies classrooms in South Carolina.  Social Studies is important in South Carolina and we want to show our most outstanding students that their efforts are important to us.

Contact the SCCSS with a list of names of your selected "most outstanding" Social Studies students and we will send the certificates to your school.
